Disable Ads
Default Suggestion RE: trade spam problems

How to solve trade spam in general chat in 5 easy steps.

Step 1. Expand text length for ads in the Search feature.

Step 2. Kill General and Trade chat channels for a week. (keep guild, alliance and team chats open).

Step 3. Add a giant blinking message:
Chat disabled. Use the Search feature for trade and party formation.

Step 4. Wait a week.

Step 5. Enable General and Trade Chats again. Repeat steps 1-5 if necessary.

The Search thingy could be very useful as it enables you to check multiple districts for stuff or people you need, the only downside is nobody's using it atm, but if people were *forced* to use it, they would notice that it is way more quicker than spamming WTS,WTB and LFG-s, and it gives you time to set up skills or chat with people while you wait for somebody to answer your ad instead of trying to keep your offer visible to everybody.

..I mean this with the utter most respect. Im not flaming, but Anet I think we have found the worst suggesting ever made in this entire Forum!

Honestly im laughing, im not having a go.

That would be the worst PR move the devs could possibly made. If Anet is looking for a good way to frustrate the entire GWs community, you have hit the nail on the head.

It wouldnt solve anything, because as with most things, people would ignore it and go back to behaving how they were afterwards.

Plus you have people who dont play for weeks at a time, they would miss out on the fun and chaos and the protests.

freekedoutfish, i couldnt agree with u more....

here is my suggestions to fixing trade spam... don't go to dist 1-2 in lions arch, dist 1 ascalon, dist 1-2 kcenter, and dist 1-3 in kamaden....

there problem fixed....

make the default load dist for all ppl 3 or somethen so that the very few unlucky ppl who land there on entry dont have to spam to everyone... use the trade channel, use the trade channel....

Heres a simpler solution....

Add an auction house.

As I previously wrote on another forum post

There is one solution that would alleviate spam and "persuade" sellers/buyers to use the Search function.

Remove the posting buffer (no more Enter up-arrow Enter) and disallow copy-paste.

They'd have to type everything all over again and that would at least slow them down. Once they figure they have to work to sell/buy their stuff they just might use the Search function for trading instead of spamming the general chat window.

I don't think this would be too difficult to implement either, could be just a simple code too.

I'm not so sure about the auction house being a solution, some would use it obviously, specially those who have storage-size multiple items to sell, but I think everyone else that wants to sell fewer items would just resort to their old ways of chat spamming.

I wouldn't suggest the chat disabling either because it would really create chaos, specially for the newer players that have legitimate questions and are just beginning to experience the game.

Increasing the text field in the Search function though, would make it more attractive to use, specially for sellers/buyers.

Landing automatically on a specific district (3 and above) will indeed save the people not wanting to get trade spam, but Anet would get flak from the people that sell/buy since no one gets to see their spam=no one buys their stuff, so I don't think that's an advisable solution either.

I do hate trade spam in general chat, that's why I suggested the solution quoted above, I think it would really help to slow down the spamming to at least a level where people could actually chat in the channel designed for it.

i dont think an auction house would solve the problem. would it help? yes, but solve it no. there will still be people who spam, I avoid dis 1 of any major town like the plague for this reason. I do like the idea of killing the posting buffer so you cant "up enter up" anymore. make the spammers work harder maybe they will start using the search button. this with an auction house....maybe we would lose more spam.

I must be odd, but as much as I would love a WoWish AH in GWs, I dont want one exactly like that. I dont like idea of copying what Blizzard has done, despite it being perfect.

But the problem is that an AH is an AH. There isnt too many ways you can implement on.

It would need an NPC or two,
A way to hold put an item up to sell.
A way to place a starting price or sell-out price.
A way to cancel a bid.
A way to place a bid,
A way to clame an item
and a way to clame your gold.

If we were to do it, we need to call it something different to an Auction House.

We very simple need two NPCs in each capitcal city (they all interconnect, but are unique to each district), who you can give given an item to AND look at available items AND place bids with.

Then we know if we have won, when we recieve a simple text alert in the chat window, or the next time we log on.

We then go speak to any auctioneer NPC to clame it and/or the gold we sell for.

Aslong as we try to avoid anything atheticaly similar to what WoW or other MMOs have done, im all up for it.

Auction House, /signed
Giving trade channel perks (increase text length), /signed
Change auto-load districts, /notsigned because the new auto-load districts would then become the areas that the sellers spam since that is where they load too.

Has anyone seen the Maple Story marketplace? That isn't a bad idea either, except the way Maple Story breaks up there servers is the only way they can do it. GW would have a difficult time because everyone is pretty much on the same server. Maybe by incorporating a merchant island or archipellago they could do something like that marketplace, where towns would be broken up based on the type of items you are selling, and you may only have one vendor across the whole archipellago at any given time. For example: material island, green (also gold&purple) item island, islands for different classes, etc. This would also help people looking for something specific and would improve on MS marketplace bigtime. It may be too much coding for any of the first 4 chapters, but perhaps for GW2? And of course, if this were incorporated, the trade channel could be shut down permanently. This would require trade to take place at the merchant islands.

Since this has turned into another auction house thread, I'd suggest you read the Index of Ideas Sticky thread for several suggestions already made on ingame trade.
